My motherboard died and am looking at replacing it and the CPU. The unit was built in 2010 with DDR2 ram so it will have to be replaced also. What I am looking for is to replace with something to will give comparable performance to what it was originally built to.

The original Motherboard was a
GIGABYTE GA-MA770-DS3 AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX All Solid Capacitor
AMD Motherboard

CPU was a
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core
Processor Model ADX6000CZBOX

Power supply is a
Mushkin 550250 ATX12V / EPS12V 580W Power Supply

Once again I am not really looking for an upgrade, if possiable I would like to keep the CPU and Motherboard under $200 but low as possiable

Thanks in advance
Pk

You can generally find AMD Socket A2 motherboards pretty inexpensive. I don't know if they still sell them new but you could probably get a New old stock one on eBay. You should be able to get an AM2 board for around $50. But you will probably have to reinstal Windows unless you get one with the same chipset.

I got a asrock n68c-gs fx board to use up some of my old spare parts and it works fine for what it is don't know if its what you need but the compatablity coverage was a lot and has 2 slots for ddr2 and 2 slots for ddr3 memory to cover a long list of amd cpu's but its not a gaming board seeing that it just got pci-e.1 slot for a vid card . but for an everyday house hold or office use it works just fine and all I needed was the board and a fresh psu to run it

look at the cpu support on this board wow

sorry dude I now see its gone from the market for $50 and covered all those amd chips old and new I don't get it and it had a 4 egg rating at new egg I got one for what it is and happy with it due to the fact it worked and covered a lot of hardware . I had near the same winsor chip and memory that came off a board that went bad put them in this and fired right up and runs fine. figured that a guy wanting to reuse good parts on the cheap this was the deal.

Thanks guys, I have been thinking about this, I was going to try and just get this computer running, but after some thought I beleive I am going for a full upgrade. So I am going to check PCPartspicker and see if I can finda a build in my price range. As you can tell I have very little knowedge on PC builds ( parts spec) so I am going the copy cat route and hope it all works out :) I have decided to go Intel, just need to figure out now if I5 is the way to go for me, Thanks for your help

If you use your pc only for daily stuff like browsing and such is an i3 or pentium already more than enough or an amd socket fm2 apu=amd cpu with integrated graphics..For intel just go with the latest socket which at the moment is 1150/haswell.

Yes,looks like it.

You could use that 8600GT if you needed to though.

If you need help with a build would it probably better to start a new thread.Tell what you want with the pc and a max. budget would help a lot if you did.

Thanks to all for the help and advice, first I am gonna count my change, sell my beer cans and scrap copper, stand out at the corner stop light with a sign that says "please help need to build new PC" and then adjust my budget LOL. The first 3 are true, stand at the stop light will not happen :) Thanks again guys
