id like to say that you should get a 650W to be on the safe side. It will allow for any future upgrades you may have. look into seasonic or xfx (which is made by seasonic) for an amazing modular PSU.

Power Supply: XFX ProSeries 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($99.99 @ NCIX US)

this one is 750 watts but is the same price as a 650 seasonic psu. it is also a better quality psu being more efficient with the 80+ gold certification.

Edit just noticed youre from the UK? that would make the psu i suggested a bit too pricy at 96 pounds. however i still suggest you look for one from the two brands i suggested. or if the corsair hx series is available to you, they are good as well.

A Radeon R9-280 needs at least 30 amps on the 12v rail and a 550 watt power supply.

The 12v rail is the key here not the overall wattage.

The EVGA 500B has 40 AMPS ON THE 12V RAIL AND 2 - 6+2 PCIE Power connections , and is sufficient to run your specs.

Nice review on 500B ^

If you can stretch you budget this is a SEASONIC made power supply with 45 amps on the 12v rail.

''200w is A LOT of head room. Yes 750 is good for xfire so if OP is gonna do that then yes go for it, but if not, then don't ''

actually i work on a client s computer who tought like you ... he have only 100W loose and now his pc shutdown randomly
so i replace the psu for a 200W more and now work like a hell

That was probably a bad psu, or he made some upgrades that took a lot more power because like i said, 100w is a lot of headroom so even the degradation wouldn't cause it to lose that much (depending on what wattage it is, but assuming an average 500, thats 20%).
