WRT54G used as a switch now can't find its IP address

I have two routers in my house. A Linksys E1200 (DHCP server) and WRT54g (switch). I set up the WRT54G router to be a switch (I have not flashed it with DD-WRT). Now I can't find the WRT54G on my network anywhere (home wired only LAN). The weird thing thing is the E1200 DHCP table does not show the WRT54G at all.
I tried the tracert command to my E1200 router from a computer that is behind the 54g but it only came back with the e1200. any ideas?

It may not have a valid IP the device will work perfectly fine without one you just can't admin it. You best bet is to get a ping scanner and ping every address. Then look in the ARP table on your PC and see if you happen to see the mac address. It is not common for this device to get its LAN address from a DHCP server since in most cases the router would be the dhcp server. You only hope if you don't see if is to factory reset the device and you then likely need to take it off the network and reconfigure it as a switch again.

If it isn't causing you a issue then you have to decide if it is worth the effort to put a known ip on it.

thanks. Yeah i think it somehow got an invalid IP address. I want to be able to admin into it. So it has an ip address somewhere on the LAN right? I will have to google for a ping scanner. don't know what that is.

Update: you would think the arp -a command would show all devices connected to the computer. I will try that with a computer that is directly connected to it.

It may not have a IP on the lan. You could put 10.123.1.4 on it and it will be perfectly happy but it is on a different subnet so it won't respond to anything.

There are a number of free ping scanners but there are only 253 possible addresses so you can just do it by hand if you really want.

Well I ran the arp -a command from a computer attached to the 54g and one of the physical addresses matched the MAC code on the router exactly. so I put in that IP address into the webrowser and it came back not available or something. I pinged the address and it came back sucussful. Not sure why it's like that. I guess I will have to reset it.

What's funny is I started this whole thing because I needed to get access to the 54G because I could not get remote assistance to work with a computer that was behind the 54g (it's acting as a switch). So I wanted to admin in to see what settings I had. So I spent all my time trying to figure out how to just get into the router. and I still haven't gotten in. dang it!

Remove the router from your network. Reset it so you can access it, plug your computer into one of the ports. Then you should be able to access it and turn off it's DHCP.

Plug one connection from your other router into one of the ports (not the WAN port) and now it is a "switch" and it will pass the traffic through port that is plugged into your router.
