Well generally they don't, you can potentially damage a graphics card by overclocking it using software tools like MSI Afterburner for example. But generally the card will act up before you fry it, unless you persist.

I've never had a graphics card fail on me before, but if I do overclock I only do by a very modest amount and usually try to match similar factory overclock specs.

Other than this the only real thing that could cause it would be hardware failure, maybe a power supply going pop (rare) or if you allowed the cooler to become choked with dust or poor case ventilation. If the GPU was allowed to run very hot for extended periods of time it could definitely cause it to have a much...
