Audio in some games (mainly League of Legends) is "over stereofied"

I'm new to the desktop PC world, and with my new home-built AMD beast, I wanted to play some games. I've tested Diablo 3 and League so far, and both have weird stereo effects that I never had with my prior laptop. It's driving me absolutely nuts...

To clarify: "stereofied" to me means things at the edge of the screen that make sounds only come out of one headphone, when I would expect there to be a greater mix between both sides.

Asus M599X EVO R2.0 Mobo, AMD 8320 Processor, AMD 7870 GPU

I should note, I had this issue with my previous laptop, and solved it with an intel hd audio driver. I have an Asus motherboard, but the only driver I can find is a Realtek driver that didn't change my problem.

Not exactly, I just meant a lot of sound cards will come with software where you can mess with sound settings. it can be optimized for music, movies, etc. thought maybe it was set to something that made your game sound off

I don't think I have a "sound card". When I built the comp, all I installed was a mobo, cpu, gpu, psu, and hdds. I'm assuming that the mobo contains the sound card, but I don't know what drivers would control that.
