Recently my computer freezes or BSODs during running games like LOL, BF4 and programs like OCCT and Furmark. Sometimes a error message appears in the taskbar stating that the 'AMD Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered'.

I have run all of these with the stock settings. I have tried both the Catalyst 14.4 and 14.4 Beta drivers with the same results ( Freeze or BSOD)

I am currently in the process of downgrading to the 13.12 drivers to see if it solves the problem.

CPU: 4670k
GPU: Asus 280x
PSU: Cosair HX-650

Solution
downgrading to the 13.12 driver may help, as this has been the case with the 14.4/Beta current drivers.

Could you try underclocking your card a bit, and see if this stops the issue (not meaning keep it underclocked, as that means less performance)

Have you had a look at your CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming? Particularly the GPU temp? This needs to be done while in the game (before it crashes of course). You can use the utility that came with your card, or something like GPU-Z or HWMonitor. Really any application that allows you to see your temperature. If you use an OSD, then you can see the temperature right in the game, otherwise you'll have to ALT-TAB out to see it.

Many times crashes are due to overheating and it could be because the heatsink and fan assembly on the graphics card need cleaning.

Yes I have, both of them seem to be within reason.
BF4
CPU=55c
GPU=66c

You said that this has been the case with the current 14.4 drivers. Does that mean that the current drivers are not stable and if so why has AMD released it on their stable release.

I will try down clocking it now.

Down clocking did help in that now it takes longer for it to hang.

I went from 1000 Mhz to 875Mhz. I even set it to -20% power.

But still i'm running it well below spec and it still hangs.

Will try the old driver now.

Unbelievable, the 13.12 drivers have solved the problems I have been facing with the 14.4. AMD should really improve their driver testing before they release it to the stable line up. Will be waiting for AMD to release a fixed version.
