Slaving a desk top harddrive

hi my mums desktop has crashed with ntdlr missing message. she had bought a new laptop so not fussed about getting desktop working but need to get bits of the hard drive. she was on windows xp and i have slaved desktop to desktop before but need to know if i can do desktop hard drive to a lap top please and if so how??
 
Solution
You'd need an external HDD case, or a USB-SATA (if it's SATA, else IDE) bridge and separate power supply.

I'd suggest just using network or a USB stick to move the data from the desktop to the laptop.
