New to building / modifying. My DAW computer is a good runner, but alas needs to run quieter. I have an Antec Solo II on the way, and have been reading up on CPU coolers, but alas, I simply have no idea which would be adequate, and fit my application / case, without being overkill.

Current set-up:
Asus P5KPL-CM uATX (micro ATX)
Intel Pentium Dual CPU with stock cooler
E2180 @ 2.00Ghz socket LGA775
4Gb RAM
Allied 500W PS model AL-B500E
Nvidea 8600GT
running XP

This computer is for my audio recording only - no surfing, gaming, etc, and is not overclocked.
The current case (no brand/model I can find) makes no attempt at being quiet, and sports an obnoxious single 80mm exhaust fan - she does run cool with the current simple set-up.

So where I'm not cooling an overclocked gaming monster, but simply looking for quieter than stock, where do I start?

Thanks so much,
Joe

Hi Goldenvoice ,
according to your case specs which i had a hard time finding your max cpu heatsink height with the Antec Solo II is CPU heatsink up to 17.4 cm tall.
http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1218-page4.html
so you must find a heatsink under that size .
secondly with a uATX Form Factor board you do not want a huge heatsink that will encroach over your ram
As you say you overclocking and you just want a quiet cpu cooler ,
I would recommend for a minimal price and almost silent with a six year warranty , this cooler

suits LGA 775 is a good 14DBA more quiet than the stock cooler as you will read if you check the link

Awesome, thanks for the footwork, and the insight :) The Solo II arrived today, so in the AM I'll be shifting things over, and see where I'm at.
I found this article http:// At first looking results of thier test over, felt I wouldn't likely be gaining much, but then noticed the difference in room temp... interesting, but not sure how much the ambiet room temp affects things. Fan certainly runs faster at full speed than the stock fan.
I'll update if I deem the cooler will fit, and install.
Thanks again, Joe
