Hi, my ASUS z77 Sabertooth mobo has started to fail so Chillblast are sending me out a P8Z77-V PREMIUM to replace it as they no longer stock the Sabertooth. Basically I'm wondering the best way to set up the EVGA SC 780ti ACX SLI for maximum performance, would it be best in x16 x16 ? Which slots would they need to go in for this? I have bought an extra long 5" SLI bridge as I want as much space between cards as possible. To be honest I'm unsure the difference between x8 and x16 I just presume x16 is better? Anyway if any one knows which slots to put these into get max performance (even if its a tiny amount better) and hopefully max distance between cards I would be very grateful for your input.

Specs are (or will be), P8Z77-V PREMIUM, i7 3770k OC'd to 4.4ghz, Noctua NH-D14, 2x EVGA SC 780ti ACX (one is currently on RMA for noise and heat issues, common I hear!!), 16gb Corsair 1600 RAM, NZXT Phantom Full Tower with 3 x 200mm fans, 3 x 120mm fans and 1 x140mm fan.

Many thanks

Eric

You want them in the two blue slots, by the looks of it.

Nice of them to give you a significant step up for free!

Thanks, yeah the blue slots did make me think that too. Its just the Mobo I'm getting for free, bought whole system 18 months ago (I have upgraded various bits) and the Mobo started to fail so they just will send me the new one (slight upgrade due to Sabertooth no longer being in stock), 2 year collect and return warranty and then a further 3 years if I pay to send thing back to them so 5 year warranty! Amazing customer service at Chillblast all emails replied to within 3 hours.

Will there be ample room between the cards if I use the 2 Blue slots? Also if I used say the top blue PCI slot and the bottom grey one would my performance be reduced greatly? Just want as much room between them as the ACX fans blow heat into the case but also the best performance, there is a 200mm side fan in case so this should help with temps I suppose. As you can probably tell I'm by no means an expert so any advice is welcome!

Thanks again

Negligible change in performance between x8 and x16.

However, if you put it in the bottom slot it will block a load of your connectors, and might fight for air with the PSU.

Good point! Been looking at pictures of the Z77 Sabretooth and the P8Z77-V PREMIUM side by side and by the looks of it the space between the two blue PCI slots it quite a bit larger then the space between the current SLI setup I have in the Sabretooth anyway, so that should be all good for using x16, x16 slots and hopefully ample room to keep temps down and not blocking anything etc. Can't wait to get it all setup and working now! Fingers crossed the RMA'd 780ti is replaced with a good one this time (GPU's not bought form Chillblast but Scan UK and their customer services is nowhere near as good as Chillblast's) !!!

Am I allowed to advertise things for sale on here? I now have 2 x 2gb Gainward 680's, GS 800w PSU and an ASUS Xonar DX2 now surplus to requirement (all still under warranty), I am in Scotland UK.

Thanks for your help you have been very informative!!!

Just make sure you follow the rules; I remove around one a day that don't read.
