I have a 5 years old 1tb 5k rpm WD hard disk, it has recently became an issue in loading times as it's my only HDD and i have everything on it, however since i can't afford an SSD atm i was loooking for an alternate cheap solution and was planning to get a 500gb 7200 rpm hdd or something to put my system on which would surely help my 3-4 mins loading time in some games like BF4. At the moment i am looking at this http://www.egprices.com/en/product/western-digital-wd-caviar-blue-wd5001aakx-500gb-sata-6-0-gb-s16mb-cache-hdd-maximum-hardware
But anyway my question is if my put the system on the new HDD do i also have to put my games on it? will i see any improvement on loading times from the the old disk after removing the system from it?

Firstly, when you re-format it, do a "Full Format". That is, uncheck the "Quick Format" check box on the app box. This will check every cluster on the HDD to be sure that they are all good. It will take much longer to accomplish but this is always recommended when re-purposing an older HDD.

As far as "Partitioning" goes, there are many third party apps that can do it but it is easier to just use Windows...
First of all, if you install Windows on a new hard drive, you will have to re-install any games or applications anyway, since they won't run until you re-install them. This is because the new Windows registry and the new Windows folder won't know anything about those games or applications, all the support files and the relevant keys in the registry will be missing. Only by re-installing the games will those support files and registry keys be restored to your new Windows installation.

Now about the slowness. If the slowness is due to the old hard drive (and that's by no means certain at this point in time), you would need to install those games on your new hard drive to get around the slowness problem.

I built a pc for one of my friends not so long ago and it had 1 1TB Caviar Blue WD and Bf4 was loading vanilla maps in 10-15 seconds compared to 3-4 mins on my old HDD.

@Phillip I am certain it's my HDD aging, startup, loading times, copying despite having a newly installed copy of windows 8.1.

I got the seagate barracuda 7200 rpm sata 3, got a massive performance boost as my old one in addition to being very old and broken it was only sata 2 and 5k RPM.

Anyway i am emptying my old drive so i can format it and re partition(run those WD repair tools), is there any program that you can recommend to re partition it?

Firstly, when you re-format it, do a "Full Format". That is, uncheck the "Quick Format" check box on the app box. This will check every cluster on the HDD to be sure that they are all good. It will take much longer to accomplish but this is always recommended when re-purposing an older HDD.

As far as "Partitioning" goes, there are many third party apps that can do it but it is easier to just use Windows Disk Manager. Go to Start>Run>diskmgmt.msc>ENTER to get to Disk Mgmt. There will be an upper pane and a lower pane. Both are scrollable. Locate your newly formatted drive in the lower pane, right click on it, and select "New Partition", and select your choices from the dialog boxes that follow.
