NO icon for imation apollo external hard disk in mac

Hi all, ive had this external drive for less than 2 mos and have load of personal data in it. my computer is unable to read the disk now (im using macbook air)-- I no longer see the apollo icon but the blue light indicator in the disk still lights.. this all happened after watching a movie stored in the had disk. i was able to remove it safely to upload some videos in youtube but the computer was lagging and the icon was no longer visible. after that my disk cannot be read anymore in any computers

There's a few things that can cause this:
1. A virus has entered the drive from a download
2. There is a internal fault with the drive
3. Faulty usb cable

If its an internal fault, check to see if the drive is spinning up once connected to a computer, and check if there is any signs of life.
If it seems to be functioning or there is no noise it could be a faulty data cable, try replacing it with another one (if you have one) or try messing with the ends on both sides and see if you get anything to happen.
If none of those works then you may need to re-format it (which deletes all data off the drive)
