So I'm upgrading my CPU in my build from an Intel Pentium G860 to an Intel
Core i5-3470 Quad Core.

This is the PcPartPicker list with the upgraded CPU: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/3nyIp but it says that there are incompatibility issues with the CPU, will this be an issue which affects me when I upgrade? The message is "Some Intel H61 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Ivy Bridge CPUs."

Thanks

Do the bios update and DO MORE CHECKING ON THE INTERNET. You don't want to end up having to buy a new motherboard for the new cpu.
In case you don't know H61 is the chipset. The chipset determines which cpu's you can use. I would check the motherboard manufacturer's website for that particular model motherboard. You can't always go by the chipset. It also can depend on the manufacturer.

I have not yet bought my new CPU but before I did buy it I wanted to check for compatibility. The chipset of my motherboard is 'Intel H61' and this is the webpage for my motherboard on MSI's website http://uk.msi.com/product/mb/H61MP31_G3.html

It would not let me download the BIOS update from here http://uk.msi.com/product/mb/H61MP31_G3.html#/?div=BIOS but I downloaded MSI Live Update 5 and installed all the updates it detected, should this have covered it?
