Hey guys, i cant decide between weather i should get the i5 or FX. People say the i5 is better for 1 or 2 threads other say the fx is better for multitasking and is more future proof. But all i am going to be doing is gaming. Maybe with 1 or 2 apps up but thats really all.

The straight answer is that the i5 is the superior processor when it comes to gaming, which is what you will be doing.

If it does become the case that games will start using more cores/threads then you can easily update to an i7 at a later date if you feel the need.

but if i was to get an fx 8350 then why ould it run better on watch dogs than the i5?

Benchmarks on watch dogs are not out.
Running better in a FX-8350 is pure speculation today.
WD developers admit that they have overstated the cpu requirements.
If WD is all you will ever play, wait until you see some benchmarks and decide.
If you will play other games, then the generally better gaming cpu is currently the i5-4670K with a overclock.
In early june, that will change with the release of the devils canyon chips.

I would say that they are both around equal. For single core performance, an 8350 is probably equivelent to a sandy-bridge i5, so the 4670 will beat it. In terms of multi-core the 8350 will win. To be honest though the difference is usually miniscule, they are both great CPUs. What I would look at is what else is important other than gaming power.

If you want cooler temps, lower power consumption and the upgradability the i5 is for you. If you plan on doing multiple heavy programs at once, e.g. playing and recording gameplay, the 8350 is most times better.

Also if you do any photo-editing, video-editing or other computational heavy applications they normally utilise all the 8 cores so the 8350 would out perform the i5, even giving an i7 a run for its money.

Another thing is cost, I can get a 8320 (an underclocked 8350 which is virtually identical) for about £110 while the i5 is closer to £160.
