I have enlarged micro-photographs off the top clear surface of a CD, a kind of deterioration-pitting I have never seen before or heard of. I would like to send some interested party photos of this pitting phenomenon. This is really scary. OK this is from a POLYDOR CD. Superficially, it looks like a deep smudge but this ISN'T any smudge.

Solution
That is kind of frightening with so many people archiving files of optical media like this.

Guess that is why they have "archival grade" and mdisk.

45X image. The RED color you see is apparently coming from another DISC it was lying on top off which had an inkjet RED coating. But this cannot be what is causing this PITTING. Plus, THAT CD is just fine with NO pitting at all! Just LOOK at this, how can polycarbonate PIT like this? This was not lying in the sun, disc not warped, foil layer INTACT!
