Way do people convert to FLAC.It is annoying mainly due to two things one it takes up way more hard drive space.And two a lot of windows player base will not play FLAC even with WMP and all the codecs.

I hate it when i have to reconvert back to MP3 format.It takes less room and sounds about as good as FLAC.My hearing is perfect and even i can not tell the difference be tween the two.

The only real difference i see is FLAC takes up more space then what is required.Which i totally think is dumb.

If people really are converting mp3 to flac as this wording suggests then it is indeed pointless. If they're actually producing the flac files from an even less space-friendly format (CD, .WAV) then flac makes perfect sense if you can play it. Who cares about the size of audio files for home use? A 2tb hard drive will hold at least 3000 albums even without any compression. At about £60 for a drive that's 2p to store an album.

Sacrificing quality to save space only makes sense on a portable device where storage is limited, which I assume isn't what we're talking about in the home audio forum. Even if you can't hear the difference on the speakers you have today you might buy some better ones one day...

Its because FLAC is mathematically loss less as meaning its ideal for storing a second copy of a cd or other source since when it is decompressed the original track can be recreated exactly which is not but wont necessarily make a difference to what you hear so its really just preference for getting as high a quality as possible even if it sounds the same in many situations

That is what i kinda figured i mean my hearing last time i check it,It was over 100% so i know for a fact that even i can not tell the difference between the two.

I just don't like the size of FLAC mainly.
