Advice on How I should overclock my CPU

Hello, I own a prebuilt rig with a AMD FX-8100 2.8 ghz 8 core CPU and recently I have started to get into programs that are fairly CPU intensive such as the adobe collection and engineering programs like cad and inventor. Also, I have started to play CPU based games like DayZ and Arma 3 which have proven to not work as well on my rig despite the fairly good AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics card. I was just curious as to what you guys could recommend I do in terms of overclocking to get the best performance possible for the moment. Keep in mind I will most likely be upgrading the processor by Fall of this year. Thanks

Do you have a 3rd party cooler or the standard AMD cooler (wouldn't OC with the stock cooler) , and regardless, every 8100 will be different, some OC very well, others not so much, (like with any CPU, some are stronger than others)...would just start OCing and see how far you can take it, keep a close eye on temps

I do believe the fan is 3rd party being that it is a Cooler Master which I feel is most likely reputable considering the other products I've bought from them. I will take your advice though. I'm just going to feel around and see how far I can take it before temps get too high. Any ideas on what temps I should try and cap at?

The FX line of processors can take 100C before they throttle, and reduce their speed because of heat. I would stop overclocking when, after running a program like Prime 95, you see that the temps peaked at anywhere like 80C.

EDIT: To give you an idea about what some of us use to cool our CPUs for OC work, I water cool using a 360MM radiator with a pretty expensive water block, which cost me about $310 total.

100 degrees? I've seen a couple FXs fry at under that, and generally start throttling at below 70...they consider about 62 as the upper end
