okay so i am new to this website and i am not sure if I have put my question in the correct category but I am experiencing an annoying problem at the moment and I am not sure as to what it might be? so randomly in the day when using my computer, the screen will go black and it will restart, followed by the error screen where you have to select ''Start Windows Normally'', I have scanned for viruses but don't have any. I also wondered whether or not this might be an overheating issue but I downloaded the program 'Heavyload' and put it on for 10 minutes, making sure it worked my GPU and CPU to 100%, and it didn't restart, so that is why i am confused. if it doesnt restart when it is under a load but it could restart when idle, which makes me believe it is not a heat issue or an issue of any hardware being strained. i also played some games for about 4 hours yesterday on high settings and it didn't restart luckily, then today i had the same game on a lower setting for 45 mins and it restarted. i have a 750W PSU, HD 6770, Amd phenom II X4 965, 8gb ram, 500gb sata HDD.

Any suggestions? thanks.

That can be one of the hardest problems to track down sometimes. Normally, one looks at the PSU (too small, poor quality) as the culprit. 750W should be way more than enough for your system. What make/model is it?
The start win normally message is simply because it shut down w/o allowing windows to do a clean finish. Check all wiring connections to be sure none have come loose over time with heating/cooling. But anything from the MB to the memory to the gfx card could be the cause. It will be a matter of experimenting with different components.

The PSU is: "CIT 750w Gold 12CM Silent Atx Power Supply". The problem persists and i have made no progress in finding the solution, The one thing that i hope isnt the problem is the motherboard, because that requires the most work to replace, and if it is a hardware issue i hope it is the RAM because that is the easiest to replace. But i havent got that far yet because i still dont know what the problem is.

i also just ran furmark for 10 minutes and that got my GPU up to about 80 degrees c, constantly under 99% load, and it didnt restart. Does this mean the GFX card can be ruled out or is it possible it could still be faulty?

Not ruled out, but less likely.
Is this your PSU? http://www.amazon.co.uk/750w-Gold-Silent-Power-Supply/d...
I hope not.

It's just 'suspicious' quality and definitely not a "750W" PSU. If I read the +12V rail on the nameplate correctly in the pic, it is only 35 amp. That puts it more in the realm of a 500W PSU. Still plenty for your system, but it makes me wonder about the quality. That is a brand sold in the UK/Europe. We don't have those here (US). So, I've never used one. But I would consider that as a prime suspect for your problems.

alright thanks, well ill look closely at that PSU, it has received very mixed reviews on the website and some have mentioned it not really being 750W, suppose you get what you pay for when you go for budget parts.
