Hi all, I want to remove my optical DVD RW from my HP Pavilion G7 2233cl. A previous post was answered that my HDD runs on sata3 while the DVDRW is sata2. The DVDRW had an adapter and is listed by HP as "Bezel Sata" I'm not sure what this means.

Will it even be possible to use an internal laptop SSD in this port?

HP-Compaq 682749-001 DVDRW Drive Burner Specs:

Type: Slim DVD+/-RW Drive

Interface: S-ATA
Burst transfer rate: 150 MByte/s
Weight: 170 gram (without Bezel)
Dimensions(D x H x W): 128 mm x 12.7 mm x 126.1 mm

I may have answered my question about the bezel (it's the fancy looking faceplate that blends with my case) but I'm still curious if anyone has performed this type of operation and can answer compatibility questions.

Solution
Hi, your Fusion Controller Hub (A70M) has six SATA at 6Gbit/s, only two are used, one for the HDD and one for the ODD, so if you connect a SSD in the ODD connector, you will have the SATA revision 3.0 for the SSD, so 6Gbit/s.

Sorry, not sure if I am getting this right, that chipset can support six sata at 6Gbit/s but it only has 2 slots on this motherboard (or if i look closely will i find more sata slots?)

Also, I was told to swap the HDD to the ODD and use the empty sata connection for the SSD (previous user described one of my ports is sata2 and one is sata3)

For your first question, no you wont see more than two SATA ports, because the laptop has only two SATA ports connected, one for the HDD and the other for the ODD.

If you use the ODD port for the SSD drive, it will be the SATA revision 3.0 (6Gbit/s) you will use.
