Are esd straps worth it?

Does it work, to keep me from dying of static? Lol.
I want to be cautious when modifying my components of my computer when upgrading because I don't want to fry it, and I don't want to fry myself.

Not necessary. Just touch the exposed metal part of your case if you're so worried.

The strap is meant to discharge any meaningful amount of static electricity you have stored up. Touching metal does the same thing.
