Hi all, I bought a 7870 Myst from my friend the other day. Vid card was working on his rig and I was present when he removed it from the PC.

When I got home, I removed my GTX680 to try out the new card, unfortunately the motherboard won't recognize it. (Code d6 in Maximus IV Extreme)

Tried out other PCI-E ports also to no avail. I tried seating my GTX680 just to check if everything's still working and lo and behold, everything's fine.

Which leads me to believe that the video card got busted in transit or as my friend was removing it from his rig.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I have quite a busy schedule and I'm sure I haven't exhausted all possibilities yet. really don't want to return it to my friend as I saw that it was working properly before we removed it.

All input will be greatly appreciated. thank you!

update: specifications:

Processor: Intel i5 3470k
Mobo: Asus Maximus IV Extreme Rev. 3.0
RAM: Kingston Hyper X Blu 1600 Mhz
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid 1300w

Why go from a 680 to a not even 7950 card? Why the step down?

I'd go back and tell friend it not working. Try it in his machine and see what's up.

I just want an extra card plus I wanted to help out my friend who's in bad need of money. will probably end up using the 680 still, depending on performance.

I know, but this option would be quite costly for me as my friend lives far from my home and it wouldn't be worth it for just a video card.

Then find a way to test it in another system. Only way to know/see if the problem moves. If the other system fails to boot as well, then it's an issue with the card.

yup, thought of this also. arranging to have my cousin's rig shipped to my house. thanks! will update once tested. or I might just bring it to the shop for warranty testing. they might agree to test it if I claim it's defective. haha!
