More about graphics card 400 australia
  1. that exact model of GPU is prone to the black screen issue, which is not by any meaning ignorable.

    I live in Australia and this would be my choice;

    http://www.msy.com.au/pc-components/12444-gigabyte-r929d5-4gd-b-4gb-r9-290-pci-e-vga-card.html

Though it runs hot, though it's the stock cooled model, what a card for $429. Best if you can later on, get a custom cooler.
  2. I'd get a GTX 770
  3. r9 290x, just picked one off ebay for $350
  4. this is in Australia, not sure if those prices are that cheap after inflation.
  5. buy from usa, shipping should be that much, you are right. that card is expensive down under. I just bought a new on off craigslist for 400 and a used on from ebay for 350. The same day i bought card I went to my local pc parts store and they have same card open box for $750.
  6. im also in aus, worked out that it was ~$300 AU cheaper to buy in the usa and ship. You can go to http://calculator.shipito.com/en/#/result and put in all the details, i also go to tigerdirect.com because they show the box size for the product. Good luck mate ;)
  7. newegg has powercolor r9 280x for $233 after $20 mail-in rebate. for that price i would do some research to see if 280x crossfire is more powerful than the 290x. What kind of monitors are you running. I run three 23"ips monitors so I needed the extra hp from a 2nd card. 1 290x will run batman arkam orgins at 35fps at 5760*1200
  8. dual 280X s is much more powerful then a 290X, there is a huge difference.
  9. well just giving you some options, drop the x and get the plain version with some water cooler:)
I been reserching video cards for last 4 months, I wanted the new nvidia maxwell card but the got delayed til 2015. The titan black is way overpriced as is the r9 295x2. My 2nd choice was the gtx 780 ti but those prices are still not in my budget since i needed two cards. I didnt even consider the amd card due to power requirements but poking around craigslist I found what I thought was a good deal, so Im happy now.

    What monitor are you running?
  10. for the price i would shoot for 280 crossfire setup or gtx 760 sli, they go over your budget but you will be impressed from the power. Add water coolers later when you want to oc. I ordered the kraken g10 bracket with corsair H75(paid $75 for both)
  11. assuming if the resolution is 1080p, what overkill, a waste of money.
  12. a GTX 770 from US and shipped to Aus is the best bet ;)
  13. All this SLI and crossfire can be canceled out, it is pointless and not needed. Stock to one, more powerful GPU, as listed above or a R9 280X/290/X.

GTX 770 $409 surely you won't mind spending ~2% extra?
  15. Where can you get a GTX 770 for $409?
  16. check evga website, click on b-stock
  17. Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 2GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($409.00 @ CPL Online)
    So Here:
    http://www.cplonline.com.au/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-770-oc-edition-2gb.html
Then again pdasterly just posted a cheaper one... for not-Australia the Australian EVGA Range goes between $429 and $525

You can get it for $402 on MSY for the windforce 3X model, though it depends on what you do, both the R9 280X and 770 are quite similar when it comes to performance.

So you think a R9 290X is better then a R9 280X Crossfire setup, I used to have a 7990, that was better but i didn't like the fact that not all games supported crossfire.

actually, a GTX 770 is faster than a 280x, its not much, but probably justifies the price.
