I recently built my computer late 2012, and have been using a 20 inch mediocre monitor. I would love to upgrade now, but am confused since there are so many options. If any of you could help me pick a perfect monitor, I would be very grateful. I am leaning towards getting a 27inch+, but I am considering a 24 inch monitor with KILLER specs.
Requirements:
120 Hz +, or overclockable to 120hz+
6ms response time or below.
AT LEAST 24 inches. Preferably 27 inch +
Here are some HDTVs / Monitors I am considering at the moment:
Westinghouse UW40T2BW 40-Inch 1080p 120HZ Slim LED HDTV

120 Hz, respond time: ?

ASUS VG248QE 24-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor

144 Hz, 1 ms Respond time

ASUS VG Series VG278HE 27-Inch Screen LED-lit LCD Monitor

**Very Pricey for a 27 inch** considered to have color bleed, 144 Hz, 2ms respond time

QNIX QX2710 Evolution II 27" LED Monitor
http://www.amazon.com/QNIX-QX2710-Evolution-LED-Monitor/dp/B00BUI44US/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399268504&sr=8-1&keywords=qnix
***1440P***, Overclockable to 120hz, 6ms response time.

If you have any recommendations, it has to be UNDER $400
Thanks!

I would opt you are looking for 1080p with fast refresh rates, though 1440p is better but does have a cost. I have a 1440p screen and used to have 1080p and the difference is amazing, it is worth the difference and is noticeable. I highly recommend your last linked monitor.

Though i can only advise not to overclock a monitor, as it can seriously damage the hardware as you are overclocking to a refresh rate that it isn't capable of, this isn't covered by warranty and is highly unadvisable.

Some points:
1) I love my 27", 2560x1440 monitor, but do some careful research to make sure it's good quality, AND has a good Warranty (3 years ideally).

2) 27" at 1920x1080 is a bad idea. You'd likely just move it away from you so your eyes resolve the pixel gap, in which case a 22 to 24" would be cheaper.

3) 6ms refresh is the maximum I recommend

4) For GAMING, I only game at 2560x1440 for certain games that really benefit like CIV5, Starcraft 2 (mainly "god" games with small HUD/text elements).

For games like Skyrim I game at 1920x1080.

5) Don't overclock. While it may work for a while, I think there's a strong chance you'd kill your monitor.

6) G-SYNC:
If you have a modern NVIDIA card, then one of the G-Sync monitors might interest you. At your budget it would be a 1920x1080 model so there are Pros and Cons. Not sure of the release date, but here's more info:

Since I don't play games like starcraft, should I just go with the 24 inch since it has 144 hz and 1ms? Plus , I might get low frames on 1440p with games like borderlands 2 or watch dogs. So what should I pick?
What 1440p monitor do you use?

But is it worth an extra 100 dollars, with me gaming primarily? What if I get low frames on a game? Would I use 1440p for gaming, or would I use 144 hz and 1 ms response more? It's such a hard decision for me with people saying 120hz is almost needed, and 2ms response. I just discovered amazon listed the qnix wrong, and that it is 8 MS response. This Korean monitor ordeal is getting sketchy...

yes, I went from 1080p to 1440p, the difference is amazing, and is noticeable for games that don't stretch the image, modern games don't stretch the image. The response time can be taken out, it's about input lag. 120Hz is great, but compared to 1440p, there is just no comparison.
