A while ago, I installed Ubuntu 13.04 alongside Windows, and all was good at the time. But then I looked at someone else's dual boot setup (same os'es) Windows 8 and Ubuntu. He could go up and down and select his desired OS. But for me, Ubuntu appears at the top of the list, and in order for me to run Windows, I have to go into the System Setup at the bottom of the grub menu and select my HDD. IF this helps I installed Ubuntu on a seperate partition, because it did not detect Windows
Here are the pics:

What happens if you select 'Windows Boot Manager'? That's what you should be using.

Did you mean to select that solution?

Hm. If you run 'sudo update-grub' from a command line, does it fix it?

Unselected.

Open a terminal window, and type it in (capitalisation and punctuation matters) and press enter. It should then ask you for your password.

Its not working. I opened terminal in Ubuntu and typed these exact words: 'sudo update-grub' and pressed enter. It didnt say anything, but took the command

Did it then go back to a prompt, or did it sit there with a flashing cursor?

When you give the command "sudo" you are declaring yourself the administrator, as the only user that'd be you and it should then ask you your password. if the password is correct it will then process the command, in this case update-grub, and after it runs it should return back to the prompt you~$ and above you'll see a report of what it found. It should not take but a few seconds.

Oh - one other thing. After typing in your password, did you then press enter?
