My main computer completely died, and I can get a used replacement for $20. Can I use the Vista COA sticker from my failed system on the new system, It doesn't have the COA sticker. Their both dell systems, but different model numbers..

Legally, no you can't.

To expand on the above, if the old case doesn't have a sticker, it's all a bit academic because you need the Product Key. It will be an OEM system, branded to the machine it was installed on and as such you can't transfer it, even with the Dell range. Does the replacement not have a genuine Vista system?

It's probably best to splash out for a new and genuine Microsoft disk and key for Windows 7. Vista will be next in line for destruction now that XP has been given its burn notice.

I just purchased an optiplex 745 for $35 instead, came with a Pentium D 925, 2gigs of ram and an 80 gig hard drive. It has no OS installed, but did come with original Vista COA sticker.

You can use that code again with a same type (home premium/ whatever)
install disk. Actually, if I remember correctly vista disks have all versions on so install the matching one.

I don't need to use the COA from my failing system, the one I just bought still has the original COA sticker.

You could try putting your old hard disk into the new machine and reactivate the system by clickingon Change Product Key in Control Panel>System. It's worth a shot and it doesn't break any rules as far as I know.
