Here are the drivers for your laptop, click Audio then download: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/product/inspiron-15-amd-m5040#

Once you download it, install the driver

Aux only supports stereo output on a single port, unless you virtually create 5.1 with software/3D sound card, or have multiple ports to connect each channel. Speaker Fill might make your sound better, if this option is available to you:

Looks like you have Virtual Surround set, you should be good with that. It may say it's only outputting stereo but in software it will be virtually made into surround sound. Does it sound like it's surround sound on your 5.1 system?

Got this from the Microsoft site:
Virtual Surround. This effect simulates surround sound. This effect is ideal for using a computer with a 2-channel stereo sound card and a receiver that supports surround sound.

Yea it's physically impossible to send any more than 2 audio channels (stereo) out an Aux port.

Speaker fill would fix your problem by making sound play out of all speakers, I have used it in the past and it sounds great. Seems like you don't have it in your list of enhancements. What is your laptop make/model, you may need to update the audio drivers to get more options.

Ok so it's a Dell, still need the model number though. Refer to this guide to find the model number: http://www.parts-people.com/find_model.htm

Don't worry about step 1 we don't need the Service Tag, just the model number so check steps 2, 3, and 4 until you find the model.

Once we have that I'll see if I can find the drivers for you.

edit:
Oh and I forgot to mention, you may not be able to get Speaker Fill since it's only supported by some soundcards etc. It is worth updating your drivers though to see if you get the functionality.
