Hi there i'm getting a new Asus M5A97 Evo R2.0 AMD 970 Socket AM3+ Motherboard to replace my aging AM3 motherboard and wanted to know which of these chips would perform better now i know both chips have 8 cores 8320 at 3.5GHZ and the 8350 at 4GHZ but there is a £33 price difference between them now if i spent the £33 on a decent cooler and better compound would the 8320 perform exactly the same as the 8350 if i overclocked it to 4GHZ same speed as the 8350 but the difference would be i have a better quieter cooler and not as noisy one also i would like to avoid bumping the voltage up if possible thanks :)

Update i would only overclock too 4 GHz only

For AMD, I would go with this.

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (£25.95 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard (£64.88 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £196.82

Closest I could get to total budget for Intel, with what I wanted for cpu, was this.

Depends on the quality of the chip. You can overclock a 8320 to 8350 speeds but an 8350 is a higher binned chip. It should in theory be able to overclock higher. So its a hit and miss really. Most would suggest just purchasing the 8320 and overclocking it.

I would suggest the 8320, its a great chip in terms of value for money imo, but anyway, have a look at this for details:

hope this helps.

Thanks for the link mate judging by the tests there pretty much the same processor with the 8350 having the slight edge on the 8320 but if i overclocked the 8320 to 8350 speed they should in theory be the same i noticed the power consumption is a bit higher then the 8350 so in total i think the 8320 is a better buy i wouldn't imagine a 500MHZ overclock would heat things up to much with a adequate cooler :)

As an owner of a AMD 8350 FX, I'd say the 8320. Price change is dramatic when the 8320 goes on sale which is does a lot in the US (8350 rarely goes on sale.) Performance between the two most the time is very minimal and at most, minor. Put the savings towards a quality CPU cooler and you'll have money left over and the over-clocked 8320 will outperform the 8350 if it still has the oem heatsink.
