Hello.

I just recently bought a WD 250gb Velociraptor drive.

Normally I did what the manual asked me to do, go to disk management, initialise, etc. But due to an unexpected restart. I check back and see thay the drive shows up as RAW and cannot format it to NTFS no matter what I do.

What should I do in this case? My pc is needing a entire wipe clean anyway and I was planning to start fresh on this drive. Everything has been backed up to an external HDD and the cloud.

OS: windows 7 64 bit
Cpu: 1055t six core 2.9 ghz
Existing HDDS: 2 1TB drives in Raid 0

Solution
Hi

Hopefully when you boot from a Windows DVD or USB you will get the option to erase all partitions and start again
So disconnect other hard drives first to ensure only new drive at risk

Windows Vista , 7 & 8 will create a small 100MB (not GB) boot partition before the main Windows Partition (C: )
But as a second hard disk this will not be done, usually just a primary partition unless you have a big hard disk and select GPT partitioning

regards

Hello Mike!

It has been initialised and partitioned, but it still shows up as RAW inside Disk Management.

This new drive will be my boot drive.

Regards, JP
