Basically what happened is that my PC started terribly under performing in video games and in some software. In videogames it started to have a terribly low frame rate (I tried three different ones: starcaft 2, black ops 2 and battlefield 4 all of which were performing excellent before). Thinking that this is a software issue or maybe a virus i reformated. After that the problem still persisted even though all drivers were up to date and PC was freshly installed. Thinking that this is a issue with the graphic card (i had ATI 6970) I switched the card to SAPPHIRE RADEON R9 280X OC D5 3GB. Games still terribly under performed. Now it's clear the fault lies somewhere between the motherboard, processor, power supply, hard drive or RAM memory, Can you please help me to identify the faulty component so I don't replace ones that are actually working well.

Here are my specs (from speccy):

Operating System
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i3 550 @ 3.20GHz 70 °C
Clarkdale 32nm Technology
RAM
4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. H55M-S2H (Socket 1156) 44 °C
Graphics
SMBX2450 (1920x1080@60Hz)
3072MB ATI AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (Sapphire/PCPartner) 34 °C
Storage
465GB Western Digital WDC WD5000AAKS-00D2B0 ATA Device (SATA) 40 °C
596GB SAMSUNG HD642JJ ATA Device (SATA) 30 °C
Optical Drives
No optical disk drives detected
Audio
AMD High Definition Audio Device

Thank you in advance.

Yeah, the bad performance is due to the CPU that's throttling because it's getting too hot.

Make sure all the fans are working and clean your PC with a can of compressed air. If the problem persist, remove the CPU heatsink, wipe off the old thermal paste (q-tips dipped in 99% isopropyl alcohol are very good for this), apply some new paste and finally reattach the heatsink.

you're maybe right, here is a speedfan diagnose of the temperatures while running battlefield 4.

The cpu seems to be very dusty, although i think im gonna clean it and replace the fan altogether since they are very cheap.]

It all makes sense though. Thank you very much gentlemen for the quick responses.

Well since that case doesn't have amx CPU cooler height specified, I can't say if it'll fit something like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo (probably not), but the TX3 Evo (still a very good cooler) should fit with no problems. If you want even more performance and silence, the Noctua NH-U9B SE2 would be a good option.

The Cooler Master coolers are held to a very high contempt on this forum and I've personally owned the Noctua cooler. I can't really tell you which one has a better price/performance ratio since I'm not aware of the availability and pricing in your country.

Thanks i'll give it a look. BTW, i cleaned the cooler in the meantime from all the dust and still 70c on idle. Definelty needs replacement.

I hope a new cooler will solve the problem :)

Do you recommend this one, it fits my socket and it's not too pricey.
