Ok its not the ultimate system, but I would think it should be good enough to play games.. It does normally run perfect, but sometimes it will just drop to like 15 or 20 fps, very noticeable, It mostly happens to me in bf4 almost everytime I get killed, or when theres alot of action, but even if I drop it to the low settings it still drops in framerate.. weird.

I have replaced pretty much everything on this rig, only thing I think killing it is the motherboard.

FX 8350 4.2ghz (max 56c on full load) 38c idle "didnt want to try and push to hard with this board"
Asrock 880GM-LE-FX
8gb Corsair Vengeance ddr3
Samsung 840 SSD 250gb
x2 Seagate 500gb
GTX 760
EVGA 600w Bronze PSU 85% efficiency
Seidon 120M - All in One Liquid Cooler
Cooler Master Elite Mid tower case

Lasts for only like 5 to 10 secs and then the fps goes back to 60+ it happens at least once every minute or 2..

it doesnt matter 8 or 8.1, if you get 8 it updates to 8.1 automatically through windows updates (takes a while though). whichever is cheaper i would go with. and i would try to use the same windows key first and call microsoft and explain you replaced a motherboard, and you have the key. they might let you use it. its worth saving $100

That is a very old chipset to be using with a 8350. Id recommend getting a good 990fx moterboard. Ive heard of these issues happening on cheap amd boards. I used to use that board with an old phenom 2 x6 1100t and had simular issues.

Yea i'm gonna try to get one in the mail asap, is that asrock 990fx one ok? or should I go with that gigabyte one?

Make sure any power saving features in the bios are off other then that leave everything default to see if thats the issue. In default configuration there should not be any issues like that if there is, its a defective motherboard.

the gigabyte ud3 is very good, it depends on which asrock. the asrock fatality killer is very good, but the extreme 3 has some issues with the 8350. or had. it probably has been fixed if it had issues. just make sure you research a little bit on which motherboard will support it. things to look at are power phases, the more the better for the 8350

OK, thanks for the quick replies! Gonna try to get it replaced this week, and hopefully it fixes it.. I mean I can still play, but sometimes it does lag at the worst times lol, I did a bunch of 3D renders all day yesterday and it was fast!, its just with gaming I see this issue, all drivers are up to date, should I stick with windows 8 or upgrade to that 8.1?

Ok so I thought I had the problem fixed, but what ive noticed now with havig speedfan open and windows 8.1 task manager, is that when my game is running perfect, 60+ fps, on windows task manager it says my cpu is at 60% and on speedfan where it says +12V, mine while gaming perfect is at 5.50s, but when I get the drops in fps, my cpu drops to the 20%'s and speedfan shows me on the +12V it drops to 1.24

Yeah that sounds like that could be your problem, I'm not sure how to fix it or what you should do but hopefully one of the guys you were talking to a couple days ago or someone new will contact you soon.

that could be the motherboard not being able to supply enough power to the cpu. Like said before, the motherboard is somewhat old. I dont think its a temperature problem since it only throttles back for a few moments, and you temps are really good. but a solid motherboard and solid psu (which you have) is needed for steady voltages. Also, if you wish to save some money on the motherboard, this is the 970 version of the 990fx gigabyte board, its exactly the same but with a less advanced (with less features) than the 990fx board

it might be. you might as well try, you wouldnt lose much performance, most games cant use all the cores. minecraft is a java game too so i think it can only use 1 core unless you get a mod for it. id say its worth a shot instead of having to buy a new motherboard

that will hold the 8350 better than what you have. the only bad part is the 4+2 power phase, which isnt as good as the gigabyte's 8+2 power phase. You may run into the same problems with varying voltages, but i dnot think it will be as common or as severe. it should be fine

Ok so after getting the asus 970 board, my computer feels like new, Ultra settings in bf4 with 0 fps drop now, its awesome. I had just 1 question though, my cpu z or anything other program is now showing me my ram speed as 800mhz, but in the bios it shows the normal 1600, before I swtiched mobo's, everything showed exactly what the bios showed..

This isnt a huge concern as my computer is running perfectly fine, but just curious why that changed.. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP THOUGH PEOPLE!

ddr3 memory is dual something or other, i cant remember specifically. but it doubles the rate, so 800mhz ram is really running at 1600 mhz. thats not a very good description, but the point is your ram is working perfectly normal. and it was the voltage drops that was the reason for your fps drops, its called v-droop, when looking for a motherboard for the 83xx i read many forum posts about it, the modern motherboards of good quality have no v-droop.

I think I am having the same issue, little cpu spikes. I got an Asus 990FX pro as well... difference is my fps will drop, not spike... CPU is never over 54C at 4.4 and I have all powersaving options off and HPC mode on... I run 1.38 at 4.4ghz. I OC'd to 4.6, and it still happens...

Could y VRM be getting too hot? I have a r9 290 in the same case, but the CPU seems very cool. I have 9 case fans for good airflow acros heatsinks, so I don't know what to think...
