Audio cutting out for 2 seconds

Hey guys, not 100% sure if this is the best place for this, but I'm having issues with my on-board audio (surprise!). Basically, when using my speakers, the sound occasionally cuts out completely for about 2 seconds. There doesn't seem to be a pattern -- I've timed the cut-outs as far as 20 minutes apart, but as close as 5 seconds. It's like someone's pressing the mute button, counting to 2 and pressing it again.

System specs:
Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX (Rev. 1)
CPU: AMD FX-8350 (OC @ 4.63)
Graphics: 2 x HD7970 in crossfire
Ram: 32GB G.Skill 1600
SSD: 250 GB Samsung 840Evo
HDD: 2TB WD20EARZ
Power supply: 850w OCZ

The problem isn't limited to one program -- happens in Spotify, Titanfall, etc. Also, when I use the audio from the SPDIF, I don't have the problem. Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!

You could try to update your mobo drivers for your audio adapter. Have you tried a different RCA cord? You could also buy a SPDIF to RCA adapter and just use the SPDIF connector since you said that is working fine.

Thanks for the reply. This problem has been going on for some time now, and I'm pretty sure I've tried to update the audio drivers. I'll check again. Unfortunately the audio cord is wired directly into my speakers. I keep meaning to try other speakers but am too lazy. It had better not be my $150 speakers... I'll be mad. Haha.

I suppose eliminating the actual speakers should be the next step. And I could go with the SPDIF to RCA, but I'm using it currently for a gaming headset. Think I'd rather buy a sound card. Haha. Thanks again. I'll update soon.
