Hello everyone, I am here today to try to fix this issue I have been having with my system. At first i thought these fps drops were a BF4 thing, but surprisingly it was every game I played! Lets start out by explaining the issue. Ill be playing a game and randomly the fps drops to 30 or less and shoots right back up. In afterburner I noticed when the fps drops happen my GPU usage drops to like 40% when it was just at 99-100%. These issues happen on every graphical setting. I contacted the makers of my GPU and they said it was fine and it didn't qualify for a refund.

*THINGS I HAVE TRIED*
-unparking CPU cores
-reinstalling directX
-reinstalling the games
-lowered graphics settings in game(notice i still get fps drops on all qualities)
-reinstalling punk-buster)
-using custom cfg files for certain games
-disabling Nvidia audio driver
-reinstalling latest drivers for video card
-trying older drivers
-testing RAM, checking temps on all hardware(which were all fine, no sign of overheating)
-reinstalling the operating system (did this three times -.-)
-updated bios
-defragmented HDD

*MY SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS*
- Zotac Nvidia GTX 770 2gb
-Intel I5- 4670k @ 3.4 ghz with turbo boost (with corsair h60 water cooling)
-16 Gb corsair vengeance ram
-2 TB Western Digital Black
-1000w XFX power supply unit(modular)
- Asus Z87-A motherboard

Overall this computer is fairly new, it was purchased in September and shouldn't have these problems at all.

Any help would be awesome, Thank you all :D

reset cmos

are all the games internet based?

what is your connection? are you going through a router?

is windows up to date? ( updates )

some of those asus boards were total crap from the "factory" and they knew it and did nothing..............

I had same problem with my old setup. I used gtx 590. My graphics card been overheating and i had fps drops and spikes. I had to clean my gpu every 2months PROPERLY removing the cooling sink too. Try to clean from the dust cause i been runing out from ideas like you. I tried and it worked. I clean my pc every 3 months now from dust. As when you get a lot dust it starts overheating and may cause spikes and fps drops.

Download CPU-Z. Check what it says your Bus Speed is. If it's NOT at 99.99 or 100.00, go into the BIOS and manually set BCLK/PEG Frequency Speed to 100.00. This setting will be under Ai Tweaker.

If CPU-Z reports everything fine then disregard this entire post.

Ai Tuner: Manual
BCLK/PEG Frequency will come up. Take it off of auto, and set it into manual, and set it to 100.00 000.50 MHz of a difference will cause your games and such to throw errors - it did for me. That should be all you need to do to get things working properly. You can also set your RAM voltage and its factory recommended timings manually as auto won't detect it properly.

while I'm thinking about it.............. how many BIOS updates were there from the one you had on your mobo? and did you try updating incrementally?

well this happened a while back before i did any bios update, it is definitely not a dust thing, i have looked in the task manager and there is this thing called service host local network goes to like 30 percent CPU usage but this doesn't seem to happen when i have an fps drop its just something strange i saw. What is cmos? All games i have played are internet based, but farcry 3 acts up as well i don't know if that counts+i have ethernet connection with good speeds. windows is also up to date(note this happens on windows 8 and 8.1) squish ill try that suggestion right now.

Starcraft 2 threw me fatal errors left and right with 0.5MHz difference. Force it to 100.00 in BIOS, and see if that fixes it.

water cooling............... what do you have for fans/airflow over motherboard components that would normally get air flow from the heat sink and fan??

i have 2 fans on top of my case one that brings air in and another that blows it out to like 4 in total, it is not an overheating problem just trust me on that one.

Try disabling the integrated GPU. That could *COULD* be a cause.

Wait let me get this straight, you get FPS drops that seem to happen when CPU spikes/fluctuates from 100% to 40%? Or did i misunderstand something.

Have you checked your GPU and CPU temperatures when in games?

If you have reinstalled windows fresh and it still does it, it sounds like the the graphics card could be faulty.

no i haven't done a cmos reset because i haven't changed anything in the bios. What do you mean disable everything but the sound driver explain please. I have tried gamebooster and made it shut down background processes but still fps drops.

what are you using for sound? the on board? a sound card? sound through hdmi? those all have their own drivers. the more drivers you have loaded may cause conflicts. or the right driver/device isn't being utilized properly.

reset cmos.

hello guys, i have fixed the issue. I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows and installed all the drivers necessary. I did this before but through windows its self. i had to do this install manually. I was surprised it worked but it did, i'm guessing it was a piece of software screwing up my system.

My brother has the same problem except on his laptop. The FPS actually drops to two or three and will actually stay there on pretty much every game, including Microsoft's built in Minesweeper.
