I am trying to get my network from building A to building B using an encore router in repeater mode and an Alfa R36 (router) connected to an Alfa long range adapter(essentially long range antenna).
Building A has a DSL modem which then supplies internet to a domain environment through a windows 2008 server dolling out dhcp to 7 computers, also in building A is the encore router in repeater mode extending the network to building B via an antenna. (all of which are on the same subnet and have unique IP addresses)
Building B has the Alfa R36 with long range adapter and one computer. Everything runs smooth until I try to setup my router in building B (Alfa R36) with building A. I can see my network in building A with 100% signal and can connect to it just fine, but... so long as my R36 is in the same subnet it will not pass on any connection beyond the R36 itself (no internet or network other than the R36 itself). If I move the R36 to a different subnet, it will give me an internet connection but of course will not let me ping or see anything other than the R36 in my network.
Other Odd facts:
- The R36 has to run in router mode instead of ap mode as ap mode only works with a wired connection.
- I started out using 2 encore routers instead of the encore and alfa but the encores had poor connection between them, the alfa + encore gets 100%.
- If the desired connection cannot be reached is there a way to connect to my network outside of my subnet (IE let the R36 stay outside of my current subnet since it seems to work well that way but get access to the rest of my network somehow)?
I'm not a networking professional so I'm sure I'm missing something here. Thank you for your time.
