I swapped out the SSD from my laptop and into my PS4 and I wanted to put the 500GB Hard drive from my PS4 in my laptop, I hooked the drive up to my main rig to format but I'm running into a problem. The drive isn't showing up in my Windows Explorer

1000

Also when I go to Disk Management, the only option I have is to convert to a Dynamic Disk.

I'm just trying to format it to install Windows 7 on for my laptop... Any help is greatly appreciated and rep'd :)

I found someone give details on how to do this but I got stuck with that person's instructions. May you please help? Here is what they said:

Place the hard drive in the case per the instructions, then go into the PC Control center and select Administrative Tools, Computer Management, then Storage -Disk Management. Now insert the USB connector of the hard drive case into you PC and look for the hard drive with a bunch of sectors colored black. Right click on each one and pick delete volume. You'll see the blue "Healthy Partition" increase in size. Keep doing this until you have only one large 500 gb partition. Click "simple format" and follow directions. Make sure you let Windows assign a drive letter or you won't be able to access the drive. When it's done, you should have a working back up drive. Enjoy!

Here is where I got stuck on:

"look for the hard drive with a bunch of sectors colored black. Right click on each one and pick delete volume. You'll see the blue "Healthy Partition" increase in size."

When i found mine at the bottom, it had a bunch of sectors colored blue and all said Healthy Partition. So I clicked on one of the Blue ones that had only 1.0 gb and picked delete volume. Now that 1 says Unallocated and it's colored blacked. I'm confused. can you please help. I will not touch it anymore. Thanks.

I had the same issue when I took my PS4's old 500GB HDD out and found this link helpful: http://www.pcworld.com/article/248980/how-to-partition-and-format-your-hard-drive-in-windows.html
I too had the issue of all blue, healthy partitions, but I took a risk and deleted them all anyway to make them one big black partition. After this, I followed what the website says and right-clicked the black partition and selected "New Simple Volume" . I then followed the steps on the link, except where it says to make sure to NOT select "Perform a quick format" or "Enable file and folder compression". Instead I SELECTED/CHECKED THE BOX that says "Perform a quick format" (I tried it how the link says by unchecking them and it would've taken all day to format; after 10 minutes it was only at 1% formatted, so I cancelled the format, went through and checked the quick format box). After all that you should be good to go. I safely ejected my external HDD from my computer, plugged it back in, and sure enough it popped up. I checked the storage and there was all 465GB (Anything you get will not have 100% available storage i.e. only 456GB out of a 500GB HDD). I hope this helps! :)

I was having the same problem, there is an even simpler way of doing it, you will not beleive!!!! I found it all by myself:)

if you click the options button on your controller when you are on PS4 (Main Menu) Settings-Devices-USB Storage Devices- Choose your hard drive bring it up dont go any further click the options button on controller and it gives you a choice to turn back to ExFAT which is compatible with Windows 7-10

This beats all of your anwsers you have been given so much more simpler than having to code it back

Hope this helps new people.

Thanks
Lloyd
