I've read all the forum saying that the 4770k is the same as the 4670k for GAMING but the 4770k is better because of its four extra ht cores.

I'm building a pc that will run all games at very or max with 780 or 770. I want to save as much money as possible so if im playing demanding games and doing light-medium video editing (special effects and high resolution), what cpu would be best? Of course I know the 4770k is far better in render time and such but is it so much better that I should spend an extra $100? What do you guys think?

I also need to know which gpu I should get. I want the 780 because its that much better but is it worth it?

well don't get me wrong but I looked at this for my self and went with the i5 now I'm happy with it and its all good matter of fact now I wonder if I would have spent on the i7 if I would have been happier . I'm real good with this i5 but I do wonder what if.. so if you can get the i7 I don't see why not but if you don't fell like your going to use all that comes with the i7 then for me the i5 is doing a fine job for my needs..

Are you going to overclock?

If yes, get the i7 4770k (although new devils canyon CPUs are coming out soon)

If no, get the Xeon e3 1230v3 or Xeon e3 1240v3. The Xeon is basically an i7 4770 without the integrated gpu.

Hope that helps mate :)

Ive got the same problem with the GTX 770 and 780 too :p Leaning towards the 780, because yes its more powerful, and has the GK110 chip, which is newer and likely to last longer ;)

Im still deciding if I should over clock . . . good cpu heat sinks seem to cost a lot.
Could you tell me what devils canyon is? Is it Intel's next line of cpu's? If so what would make them better

I was also wondering why the xeon would be better besides it being cheaper because of the no integrated gpu.
Is the xeon designed only for editing because i seriously have gaming in mind with this build.
Thanks for the help!:)

Devil's Canyon is the Overclock optimized haswell refresh CPUs coming out in June sometime, with better thermal interface material (TIM)

No, the Xeon is pretty much just an i7 4770, its made on the same lines and from the same stuff. It is downclocked by ~100 MHz, but that makes no difference. The e3 1240v3 would be my recommendation mate :D

The 4770k is definitively better for gaming .... though prolly not so much as to justify the $100 price difference. In a gaming only box, for many the price difference isn't worth it. However, with editing and other tasks on the list, the HT from the 4700k will show dividends.

In simple terms, the answer is 4770k for sure.
When Video editing software like After effects, premier actually all Adobe softwares are extremely good at utilising CPU power. With hyperthreading, you are gonna benefit a lot. Less stuttering, less lags

So for Video Editing, 4770k it is.

Well for gaming, 4670k is kind of enough, 4770k will fetch you 4-5fps (maybe not).

So, yes it is worth it if you are going to edit videos
