Alright, i have asus laptop, intel core i3, 8gb ram, nvidia gt 635m and 1tb hdd.
It says that my gpu has 1gb dedicated memory and 3gb shared memory.
People told me that shared memory is the memory that glu will take from ram if it runs out of dedicated memory.
But why can't i play assassins creed 4 on ultra settings then?
On game debate recommended requirements are 4 gb of ram, i5(2.5GHz, as same as my i3) and nvidia gtx 470 which has 1280mb of memory.
So even if my gpu does run out of memory it has 4 gb of ram free because, assassins creed needs only 4 right?
Why do i have low fps then?
And anyway, will running on shared memory slow down my games?
I mean is dedicated more efficient?

Solution
recommended requirements are not usually for max settings. just normal settings.

Shared memory is a lot slower then dedicated memory. just for the fact it takes a lot longer to get the data as the graphics card is fighting the cpu to get information from the normal ram. as both parts are doing a lot of work in a game like AC4.

Hi. You have 8 Gb of System ram, so you should be fine. The one drawback may be the processor as it is a dual care, but may be HT, which is helpful. I have a Gateway, running an i3, and tried Oblivion on it and it played fine ( using the integrated graphics ). I don't think you will be using that much system ram.
