I'm looking to buy the 295x2 single, but I can save 400$ if I use crossfire for this 2 290x r9 amd.

Which is it better? 2 290x's or 1 295x2?

Budget for a whole badass pc: 1400$

$1400 for the rest of the PC I hope. you could say that the CF'd r9 290x's (with 3rd party coolers) may have better OC potential, but the gpus on the 295x2 have a hybrid cooling solution and appear to be cherry-picked for performance/watt. I'd say build your PC around 2 290x's first, then see if you can cut back enough to get the 295x2.

Either way is fine. The single card will actually make less heat than the combined other two cards, but if you have good case cooling it will not matter.

Both would be the same performance, however the Xfire is cheaper.
Hybrid cooling takes up some extra fan spaces.
Xfire requires 2 slots, as well as double the fans and two heat sources.

lol the 295 eats the whole budget. I guess it can sit on your desk and you can imagine how awesome it would perform if you had the rest of your system :)

the 295X2 would be cheaper, when you consider the cost of a water block for each GPU. Performance would be identical.

I think either solution will really eat up your budget, I would suggest holding off on the purchase until you can put together some more money for it. The cheapest 290Xs come in at around 500 bucks, two of those and you have 1 grand on the cards, that leaves 400 for a case, psu, cpu, RAM, motherboard, and storage. Either step down to the 290 (still not my first choice for the price range), or more appropriately a 280X.

Also check out my build list, it goes a bit over your budget but you can play with the hard drive or SSD and adjust it there.

290x cf would be cheaper than 295x2, but better looking and easier to upgrade to quadfire later.

Go with Crossfired Sapphire R9 290X TRI-X OC's http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HJOKARI. It's much cheaper than a single R9 295X2.

If you don't have room in your case then go with the 295X2. Otherwise, there is no reason to consider it.
