I recently picked up an i5 4430 for cheap and I was planning on using it in my gaming build. Lately I've noticed, though, that games are starting to list i7's under recommened specs. Is it worth upgrading for? I've seen the benchmarks that say it makes no difference, but it seems games are going to start to take advantage of the i7's. Thoughts? I was planning on going with a GTX 770 or 780.

For now hold you 4430. No need to upgrade. Though upgrading the Graphic card.
i7's are kinda in the recommended list probably because of hyperthreading.
Upcoming games like Watchdogs might be utilising it.

You might not need to worry. 16GB RAM and a 780 with 4430 shall suffice :)
I think you have nothing to worry about. They are referring to lower performance i7's. There are a fair amount of i7's that are worse performing than the high end i5's. Also many consider the i5 4670k to be the best CPU for gaming at the moment.
