RAM "Spiking" During Gaming

Hi everyone,

I've kind of noticed this before, but I just wanted to make sure that nothing is wrong with my PC or anything. I noticed while playing Planetside 2 today on my PC (specs in signature) that when I alt-tabbed out of the game, in task manager's performance window, my RAM usage line looked like it was going up and down in a jagged line. It would slowly rise until a certain point, then over the width of 2-5 squares (roughly) in the monitor, it would go back down to a lower level, then slowly rise to the usage level of the previous spike, then sink back down to where it sank before (approximately).

I didn't really notice any stuttering or issues with the game associated with the spikes, and it ran smoothly at 60 FPS usually on full ultra, with dips into the 50's and sometimes mid-high 40's in very intense battles, which seems pretty normal for PS2. I have run memory diagnostics before that have come up clean, and this installation of Windows is pretty fresh on a pretty new PC. This is also not exclusive to PS2, it happens on I think every game that I play, but I can't tell unless I view it in task manager. Also, this is exclusive to gaming, as while idling or using other programs (that I have monitored), the usage seems to be fairly linear.

Is this normal, or something I don't need to worry about, or should I be looking into this more? I can provide an image of what the spiking looks like, but I don't really know how to upload a picture into these forums, as it is on my hard drive. Thank you so much!

As long as performance isn't affected you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the reply, and sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I would guess that RAM utilization would be fairly fluctuating while gaming, but the way I see it used is a fairly uniform fluctuation, like a consistent pattern like upside down saw teeth in a consistent line. Thanks for the answer though, I guess it is fine anyways?
