O/S Vista. HDD goes into thrashing mode sometimes but always after waking from sleep (power saving) mode. Cannot locate which part of Vista is causing this. Have searched for online solutions and have tried all of them but no change. Have deleted suspect apps and still no joy.

How often do you turn the computer off?.. Computers should be occasionally turned completely off so the hiberfil.sys file (which saves the sleep mode or hibernation information) deletes accumulated data and restarts fresh.. this data accumulation is a common cause for the type of problem. Also disable startup programs from start/run or search and type msconfig and disable programs in tha startup tab except for the antivirus.

If that doesn't help, try increasing the virtual memory size, even increasing physical RAM (if necessary) should help. Also delete temp files and general system junk files with CCleaner.

I have experienced this problem with any Windows version I used when using the hibernatrion or sleep mode and disabling hibernation in the power saving mode settings or shutting down the computer regularly has always helped. Deleting temps and system junk is to remove residual junk that clutters disk space and takes up memory that can be better used where best needed.

There are alot more things you can do to improve your computer performance so check this thread for helpfull tips.
