After using it at school I came home and booted it up to windows. Within a minute it shutdown instantly. I tried rebooting it 3 or 4 more times and it shutdown progressively sooner and sooner, until it was shutting down when the bios screen came up.

I noticed that it was a little warmer than usual and the fan seemed a bit dusty, so I let it cool for a bit and disassembled it and blew out some of the dust before putting it back together. Unfortunately, I messed up the plastic retainer that holds the keyboard ribbon to the motherboard and was unable to reattach it, however, the power button is not part of the actual keyboard and does not appear to be connected to it.

So now it does not boot. I have tried to start it on battery alone, battery with ac adapter, and with just the ac adapter. The adapter is definately good, I checked the voltage on it and when I plug it in it lights up one of the little leds in the front. (The other led lights when it is turned on) I also tried unplugging the battery and adapter, holding down the power button for a minute, and reconnecting everything to no avail. The battery was showing about 40% charged before the problem occurred.

I'm not really sure what else to try and I was hoping that maybe someone may have experienced a similiar issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, with the charger plugged in the only indication I get is the LED on the front of the laptop is lit that indicates it is receiving external power, although it only lights with the battery in place. Not sure if that is how it is designed or not. With only the battery plugged in there is nothing going on at all.
