Hello,

I opened a previous thread which is now leading me here as i need to pick a new gpu.
I'm replacing the gpu for the build that i just made, my budget is extremely limited and only allows $250-$300 for a new one (aus).

Do you guys think its a good idea to buy a used higher end gpu? or a new lower end card.

-amd radeon 290- custom cooler, the gelid one for around $280--used
-Gigabyte 270x Oc version- for $250, comes with bf4 code--new
-sapphire dual x 280x $245- used
-gigabyte 280x $270--- used
*assume the cards listed are all in good shape

So far, these are the only options i found feasible which give me a decent rig.

Any help is greatly appreciated

I think you are better off getting the most powerful single GPU right now, the 290. Yes you can crossfire older cards to improve performance, but as of right now some games are not optimized, and dont run GPU's in Crossfire/SLI very well, some games don't support it at all, leaving you with just one card.

By the time the 290 starts having real problems with games they should have all the crossfire issues taken care of (well i hope they do), The prices should have dropped and can just get another 290, and be good to go. that is just my two cents, i hope it helps.

Used products have no warranty, and buying them online means you can't test them before hand, so it is a bit of a gamble. If I were you, I would either save some money to get a new 280x, or just get the new 270x now, and then later add another one for crossfire whenever I have the money.

He said ”assume the cards listed are all in good shape” so when I said the 290 I was going off that. But I agree buying used cards is a gamble. You are better off buying a new card as stated above that will have a warranty.

yes i agree. Well the sapphire 280x has warranty for about another year or so and im still inquiring about the other 280x.
I noticed no one mentioned the New 270x, guess thats a no go?

Hmm im so confused ;(. I would save up a bit more for a new/better card but i need it now. Thats why i'm looking at used ones.
Only thing new i can afford so far is either the 270x or a gtx 760 - which have similar performance anyway.

If i miss out on the 290 you guys suggest just going for the sapphire 280x?
