Cannot select 'Maintain Aspect Ratio' in CCC?

Hello all,

After building my new PC, I have been playing an assortment of modern games to try it out. All good.

A couple of days ago, I decided to put some of my old favorites on, and while I have gotten them to work well enough, they are all 'stretched' from their native 4:3 res, and look like I am playing as Jake and the Fat Man on screen.

Ok, Maintain aspect ratio must not be selected right? Right. Unfortunately, the option is greyed out in CCC!?! So I head to the internet...

'Change your resolution lower and then the option will be selectable. Select it, up the resolution and all will be well!' Ah, no. I have tried this now about 20 times, with many different resolutions. The option is greyed out on any resolution.

'Make sure you download your monitor drivers!' Sorry, there are no drivers I can find for my monitor (Asus VX238H).

The last hope is changing from my current arrangement of HDMI to DVI cable, to a HDMI to HDMI cable, where I saw in one thread that somebody fixed the issue by doing this?

In any case, I am using Catalyst Control Centre 13-12 if that means anything.

I noted that this problem has stretched back years...Is there something strange going on here with AMD? I is there something stupidly simple I have overlooked?

Hello Dark,

I went back to default settings (which gave me the good old 1cm black border again, hehe, quick fiddle with the overscan got rid of that) but nothing. Still greyed out, before and after I readjusted the overscan.

Well, I have solved this issue.

In the back of my head, it was always there...go to the registry and hard edit it in. I thought this kind of thing wasn't necessary in this day and age with super duper drivers, etc, but I guess I was wrong. I went straight to the graphics drivers folder, into the 'Scaling' 00 file under Configuration. Sure enough, it was currently on option 3 (scale image to fit screen) which is not what I wanted. I edited this to option 4 (maintain aspect ratio) and, sure enough, just like the old days, everything works perfectly now.

This shouldn't happen really. I don't know whether I have some strange setup (I certainly don't think so, and I am not exactly a newbie in the PC department...), or whether AMD has dropped the ball with their drivers, but having to do the old regedit shuffle for these kinds of things is very retro these days.

Thanks to all who attempted to help me (all two of you ;) ).

Nah, I already tried that trick earlier and no luck. It doesn't matter, the old regedit saved the day. Aspect ratio works perfectly now. Thanks for still having a look. I appreciate it. Have a cookie on me.

I find it hilarious that AMD officially supports that kludge answer though. Since this issue has affected many people over a number of years, they should have sorted this out many releases ago.
