Hello
I have a bit of a problem and I have minimal amounts of tools at my disposal at the moment, so I am looking for a best course of action.
First, an employee brought his Dell Inspiron to me. It would not boot. I attempted to both repair and install windows, but nothing would appear on the screen using either USB or disc. When I attempted to boot from either device it just went black. I have used these devices on other computers flawlessly.
I took out the hard drive, which for some ungodly reason was buried under the motherboard, and have mounted it onto a desktop PC (SATA). When I open the drive, there is nothing there. It's completely empty. I'm not even sure how that could have happened.
I know once installing windows to a drive it's "locked" to that PC, and I know windows 7 and 8 don't support external installs, so I am looking for a best course of action. Is there anyway to get a fresh version of windows on this hard drive and then get it back into the laptop to test it? It's a real pain to install this hard drive back into the laptop, so I'd like to do it only once if possible. Thanks for any help.
