Hey there...

I just bought an i5 4430 for $100 (with Staples price-match) to use in my new budget gaming build, which I understand is a pretty good deal.

However, I think I encountered an even better deal:

With the Intel Retail Edge Summer Deals, people can get an i7 4770k for only $76!
(As long as, you are an eligible employee of one of Intel vendors)

The only caveat for me is that I would have to return my i5 4430 (which still has to arrive).
And secondly, I have to ask one of my friends to do it for me (as I personally don't qualify).

So in any case, To do, or not to do...
Is the i7 deal much better?
Is the i7 itself much better (in the long run)?
And is it even worth the upgrade from my i5 to this i7 (via a bit of hassle)?

Thanks; I appreciate the help!

Well, for 77 bucks for a 4770k, that's originally over 300 bucks? GO FOR IT! That 4430 you got can't even overclock, and is the older version of the i5, the newest is the 4670k i5. Go for the i7 for only 76 bucks, no regrets!

while i agree mostly, the 4430 is the same haswell architecture as the 4670k, just with slower clocks and no ability to overclock (not any older).

also, as he stated, a 4770k for less than 100 bucks is a no brainer

4430 and 4670k are not any different in age. They are same generation parts. Just the 4430 is a locked i5 and the 4670k is an unlock chip.
