Why do motherboards have places to connect monitors?

Im looking at building a gaming pc and was wondering why both the graphics card and the motherboard have HDMI ports. What is the purpose of having a place to connect the monitor on the motherboard? Is this for dual monitor setups? And which place should I plug my monitor into?

Thank you

Depending on the type of motherboard you are talking about, some have integrated graphics, either in the motherboard itself, or built into the CPU. For users who don't need a dedicated graphics card, i.e., a system for just browsing the internet for example, the integrated graphics is more than enough.

If you add a dedicated graphics card, you definitely want to connect the monitor to the graphics card, not the motherboard.
