I dont know much about pc so a friend of mine helped me build a new pc today i put it together and everything seems fine expect that the cpu is overheating/spiking(only with mozila open,1 tab, it's at 66 C)and then it goes down and back up for no reason also the pc seems to make a "loading sound" every time i do something small like it's struggling,i've checked and the fan is spinning constantly, everything seems to be connected, also when i start the pc the fan seems to go at max speed for a second and then continues normally (i dont know if this is a problem), here are the specs:

psu: Corsair VS Series VS450

cpu: AMD Athlon II X4 760K Black Edition 3.80GHz box

motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-DS2

ram: KingMax 4GB DDR3 1600MHz

gpu: Asus AMD Radeon HD 7750

Thank you.

Of course i used the cooler that came with the cpu, its mounted correctly and it actually spins (it can only be mounted with the clip on right or left), and it's only the cpu the rest of them are at 35 C in my house is about 20 C.

I was meaning did you get an after market cooler lol. Seems a bit hot but then the coolers that come with the CPU's are not very good. 66c is nowhere near being serious as long as it does not get hotter. Have you tried playing a game?

66 C is pretty serious for standby since i started this thread it's keep on going from 70 to 80 without me doing anything, i can also heal the cooler speeding up trying to get it cool and it really seems like it's struggling and i know the stock cpu fan the cpu comes with its not very good but it's enough to keep it at at least 40-45 while there is nothing running not at 70 so there is definitely something wrong. I also reinstalled my windows since the old wasnt working with the new hardware so that might be a factor, i also have no games to play atm but it's pretty clear something is wrong.

I know you prob have checked but any background tasks show up in the activity? The only two things I can think of is cooler is mounted wrong or there is some rouge task that is making your CPU work overtime. Or you have somehow got a bad CPU.

The bottom of the heatsink cooler had the paste on it so i didnt had to add any extra but from what ive seen on the internet all the cpu has to be covered in a thin layer so maybe that's where i went wrong, i dont know how the cpu can be bad but if there is nothing else ill speak with the seller and either try to fix it or get another one.

Since then i removed the cpu fan once to see if the processor was put in right and the paste was all over it (maybe not 100% but covering most of the area) so no that is right, can it be because it is new? it does that until the paste hardens or something like that, since the last message it seems like it's stable at 53 while using only the browser still a bit too much for idle but ill take, i also tested it in a game (diablo 3) and at lax settings it was running at 80-90 fps but the temperature was going crazy 90 C or so if there is anything else i can do please let me know, thanks

What program are you using to monitor your temps? I have a similar CPU (AMD A10-5800K) and I have had crazy temps too, and I use Artic Silver 5 and a Cooler Master Hyper TX3.

Check your temperature in BIOS (if your BIOS supports it) and see how far off that is from the program you are using.

Good luck!

I used like 4 different programs to check the temperature, it is off by a few degrees but i can hear the fan speed up in order to cool the cpu off when it starts to overheat and all the programs show the spikes in temperature, the problem are not the programs but the cpu.

I think i may have solved it, after watching many youtube videos one was actually usefull, the amount of paste that came at the bottom at the cpu fan was not nearly enough but nobody seems to know this but apparently it requires alot more than the amount it comes with, it doesnt even come with a tube so you can apply it yourself so they make you buy more shit...anyways thanks for all your help.

With hwmonitor you should check the sockettemp. It should be about 5 - 10 degrees more than the core temp. See if it was actually accurate because it should shut down before it hits 90. Happy computing!

Here is a ss with hwmonitor on with a medium load.

I did what your tutorial said and the idl temperature was around 60 and the load one was around 35, but i think i know where my problem comes from, the insufficient thermal paste the cooler came with, im buying some more paste then ill come back to tell you if it's fixed or not but it should be.

Alright so i bought some arctic silver thermal paste and applied it and it seems to be a bit better, from what i've understood i need to wait about 24h to get to full efficiency but for now it seems to be the same so i'm sceptical.

To be honest it seems like your getting the most out of the stock cooler. You will notice that almost any PC that is built for any gaming will use an aftermarket cooler. Something like this is cheap and effective http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099 . There are so many reasons that your CPU can run hot when you are using the stock cooler. Those coolers are ok if your using MS Office and very basic things but for gaming they are very weak.

So is really as bad as it's unusable even to run normal games that dont take too much of your resources ? I mean im not trying to play crysis 3 at max settings (even tho i should be able to) but i should be at least able to use it to play regular stuff or at least watch a stream without it going to 90 C, i know amd overdrive says its alright but the noise made but the fan makes me think otherwise i dont want to burn the processor thinking everything is alright but i dont really want ( have the money) to buy a new cooler and im not even certain that will work...
