Minecraft Won't Open

Running: win7pro 64 bit

I have minecraft, the video game, installed on my computer. Whenever I open the launcher, it shows up on the taskbar but doesn't actually open. Then it disappears from the taskbar. I have checked task manager and nothing comes up. I have tried re-booting multiple times. Can Anyone Help?

I had similar problems.
- Delete/uninstall all versions of Java. Delete Minecraft, though you can save the "save" directory. Clean registry too. Reboot
- Install 64 bit Java. Do not use the auto-install. Manually select the 64 bit Java. Close all browsers and programs for the install. It most likely will say, "but, but, but you have 32 bit this and that." Ignore those warnings (for now) and stick with the latest 64-bit version. Reboot.
- Install Minecraft
