Custom built PC won't fire up

Hi guys,

So recently I decided to put together my own PC and - since I had some previous exposure to swapping hardware etc - I thought "how hard can it be?" Well, not as easy as I thought.

I put everything together according to the manual and with help from various guides. Unfortunately, when I try the power button (on the MoBo, not the case) I get absolutely no response (i.e. no PSU fan, no CPU fan, no MoBo error code). I tried taking the MoBo (with CPU + fan + RAM installed) and PSU out, laying them down outside the case, connecting only the 24-pin and 8-pin power cables to the MoBo and giving the Power button another try - absolutely no response. I'm worried either the PSU or MoBo is fried/ damaged in transit.

Any other tips to try before I send it back to the store would be greatly appreciated
Cheers,
Rob

PS. I was attempting to run:
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H motherboard
Intel i5-4670K CPU
8GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM
Corsair AX760 PSU.

Front panel pins are very often the culprit in my builds. Always make certain the plugs are firmly and completely plugged in (this goes for all connections).

The page to which ss202sl directed you is excellent.

Thanks for the suggestions and the link. I don't think I committed any of the major mistakes mentioned in that self-help post.

I did however run corsair's PSU check (i.e. attempting to power it up without the MoBo, under minimal load) and my unit failed that one - I think I've got the culprit there. It would be good to also check the MoBo and CPU under breadboarding conditions but I don't have access to an alternate PSU at the moment.

It looks like it will have to be Corsair's RMA process in the end :/
Thanks again for your replies.
