hello guys,

I just bought a new XFX R9 270X double dissipation 2gb graphics card to upgrade from my MSI 550ti, but the problem is that no matter what i do i get no image on my monitor. the card is turned on and fans working.

i have a GA-h61-ds2 motherboard
thermaltake TR2 500W psu
intel core i5-3330

just the r9 270x is not working, if i plug back my old 550ti it still works perfectly, and i tried both 6 pin connectors on the 550ti to see if one of them was the issue but both work.

i tried updating my motherboard BIOS to the latest patch.

maybe the card is the issue but i need to make sure cuz i bought it hundreds of miles away from home and dont want to make the trip unless im sure.

thanks in advance.

Did you fully uninstall all the drivers and other nVidia components for the 550ti before you switched the graphics cards?

Which monitor do you have and how is it connected to the GPU?

Its possibly a dvi issue. Only one of the dvi ports on the xfx is dvi-i so try the other one. The other id dvi-d

Have a read thru the dvi wiki. Its very informative.

If you didn't fully uninstalled nVidia's drivers, that is most likely the problem. I suggest you do the following:

1. Put your 550ti back in.
2. Use Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel to remove all nVidia related software from your computer, or use official uninstaller for each nVidia related software.
3. Reboot your PC (preferably in Safe Mode).
4. Use Display Driver Uninstaller (http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/display_driver_unin...) to remove any remaining nVidia software from your PC and shut down your computer when finished.
5. Replace your GPU and proceed with AMD driver installation after you boot up.

That should get you past the black screen.

i already tried uninstalling all nvidia software and using the display driver uninstaller, it didnt work.
i use the hdmi connector to my tv, doesnt work.
i use a DVI to VGA adapter to my monitor, it doesnt work on both ports.

make sure when you boot go to bios and check that the onboard isn't getting defaulted by accident in-which the computer may not be picking up the new card.

Can you boot into BIOS?

If you can, check and see if your GPU is recognized.

If you can't do it with the r9 270x after all nVidia software has been removed, put back the 550ti and look for BIOS update on your mobo's website.
If there is no BIOS update available, shut down your pc and clear CMOS.

If you wish, you can first put your new r9 270x card in another computer to see if it works (to eliminate the possibility that your card is dead).

I have the same problem, but it's with a Sapphire Dual-X R9 270. What's going on here between the R9 270 and the newest Intel mobos? Sapphire R9 270 works just fine in an older Windows 7 machine and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 4GB DDR3 works just fine in the i7 mobo but the Sapphire in the i7 mobo = blank screen.
