My Sony bravia will not come up in playback devices on my PC. (i have checked the boxes to show all)
If i unplug my headphones i get a red x on the speaker that says no audio output device installed.
My TV used to play sound and i cant figure out what changed.
My device manager only shows the headphones under the sound video and hardware tab.
With the headphones installed i also get a new section in my device manager labeled as audio inputs and outputs that list only the headphones under. If i unplug my headphones the Audio Inputs and Outputs disappears.
I bought a gateway dx 4885 ub3a which has the i5 4440 and i put an Geforce GTX 750 ti.
Its connected to my tv (which is the only monitor(tv) i have and only have used) via hdmi. Picture comes in flawlessly just no audio.
Also i had no audio before the graphics card. I installed the card for better graphics and hoping it would fix the audio problem, but no luck.
I've had this problem for 5 days now, searching through various forums and haven't had any luck to a solution.
Any help would be much appreciated as this is the first PC problem i have encountered that i couldn't fix myself. Thanks, Charlie and sorry if i posted in the wrong spot, not sure if this is a hardware or software issue

Solution
I apologize if some of this is already obvious, but I have difficulty reading every single sentence on a computer screen.

1) I'm confused:
You say you had the problem BEFORE you installed the GTX750Ti, yet you say your GTX750Ti audio works? How did you test it?

2) It is definitely a SOFTWARE problem. You could try reinstalling the MAIN CHIPSET driver for your motherboard (motherboard support site).

It may be a weird issue that requires you to reinstall Windows however.

*On that note, if you have a spare hard drive, do this:
a) shut down and unhook all SSD's and hard drives EXCEPT the spare drive
b) Install Windows (don't Activate), the Main Chipset driver, Nvidia drivers etc.

3) HDMI motherboard output:
Your CPU has an iGPU so you...
What GPU did you install? Did you install the drivers for the GPU? Not all HDMI ports on tv's can accept audio through the HDMI. Mine in fact needs an extra wire to carry the sound to the HDMI port that can be used for PC signal. Check these things and report back please.

As mentioned, check Audio Playback devices.

*First, make sure your NVidia drivers are up to date. They included the NVidia HDMI audio output so you need that.

You can actually do this in the NVidia Control Panel, or:

right-click the AUDIO icon (lower right)-> Playback Devices-> set "NVidia HDMI" as default then TEST

as i stated i have a red x where the speaker is, nothing at all comes up in playback devices. i had this problem before i installed the graphics card. and the graphics card i installed is nvidia geforce gtx 750 ti, the hdmi is working, i used the same exact cord and tv before with audio no problem, in my nvidia control panel it says i have no audio output devices installed, my headphone jack wont even work

Then you currently have a borked setting somewhere. You should be seeing multiple audio device options when you right click the speaker and select playback devices. If you don't, its time to start purging and reinstalling drivers. On my system i see 9 playback devices actually, 6 from my GPU(its a bit ambition), speakers, then a couple of HD audio outs. If your motherboard has any Coax or optical audio outs they should be showing up on there along with the speaker option, if they aren't you need to start digging through drivers because it isn't your GPU's fault.

i wouldnt even know where to begin on "purging and installing drivers" in my device manager nothing comes up under sound video and hardware. i used to have realtek hd audio but it doesnt even show up in device manager. Ive tried downloading it from realtek and installing still nothing will come up in device manager for my audio.

3) HDMI motherboard output:
Your CPU has an iGPU so you could try testing connected directly to the motherboard if it has HDMI. This bypasses the graphics card completely and I think you need:
a) Intel video driver
b) Audio enabled in BIOS
c) Realtek audio driver
d) Motherboard BIOS set to iGPU first before PCIe (or better yet have the GTX750Ti removed)

4) I'm confused on whether your headphones work and what they are connected to.

5) At what point WAS this working, and what did you change?

Summary:
I'm pretty sure it is a SOFTWARE problem caused by some driver conflict or similar. Hopefully some of the above gets us back on track.

I ended up doing a system reset, it was just the easiest steps to quickly solve the problem. It must have been some odd driver issues, but thanks to all for trying to help!!
